About Us

MHS was established in 2006 to facilitate mental health awareness training in working environments.

The company actively supports the Dept. of Health ‘Action on Stigma - Promoting mental health, ending discrimination at work’ (www.dh.gov.uk) initiative by offering bespoke courses and utilising the MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID training programme.

Originally developed by the Centre for Mental Health Research at the Australian National University, MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID has been adapted for England by MHS in a collaborative venture with MIND* (Mental Health Association) and a working group of mental health professionals from the statutory, independent and voluntary sectors.

Bernie Graham BA MSc, Director of MHS, is a Psychologist who has worked in mental health for almost twenty years, holding appointments in both the statutory and voluntary sectors. He was a member of the first trainers’ group in England to qualify as MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID instructors. In addition to facilitating training in mental health awareness, he has led numerous training programmes in assertiveness, communication skills, and service user participation.
